We, the students of Room 205, in order to establish a more perfect order, establish justice, ensure safety for all students, provide for the common defense, promote general well being, and secure the blessings of Liberty to ourselves and future 8th graders, establish this constitution for Room 205.
Article 1: Legislative Branch
Section 1: Number of Representatives
There shall be six (6) Representatives in Congress. Each row is entitled to one (1) Representative. Section 2: Selection of Representatives.
The Representatives will be selected by one vote per row every third (3rd) month. Section 3: Term of Service
Each Representative shall serve for 3 months per term and is entitled to as many terms as they are elected to. Section 4: Qualifications
In order to become a Representative of Room 205, one must be at least thirteen (13) years of age. have been an enrolled student of Room 205 for at least three (3) months, and have a GPA of 2.0 or higher. Section 5: Representation of Rows
Each row is entitled to one (1) Representative that meets all of the qualifications stated in Section 4 or Article 1, and that has been elected by the process described in Section 2 of Article 1. Section 6: Impeachment of the President
In order for the President of Room 205 to be impeached, 2/3 of Congress must vote the President out of office, and the Supreme Court must prove the President guilty. Section 7: Making of the Laws
In order for a "bill" to become a law, 2/3 of congress, and the President must agree that it will help the classroom. The passing of a "bill" will occur under the supervision of the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. Section 8: Duties
It shall be the duty of the Senate to make the laws. The Senate will
Read over "bills" and determine whether or not they will pass.
Approve or deny the severity of each consequence the court issues.
Article 2: Executive Branch
Section 1: Length and Limits of the Presidential Term
Each President of Room 205 is entitled to 3 months in office, and is allowed to serve 2 terms. Section 2: Selection of the President
The President of Room 205 will be elected by majority vote. Every single voice will be heard. Every student is entitled to one vote, and every vote shall be counted. Section 3: Qualifications
In order for a student to become President of Room 205, they must have attained an age of at least thirteen years, have a GPA of 3.5 or higher, and have been an enrolled student of Room 205 since the first day of school. Section 4: Duties of the President
It shall be the duty of the President to:
Pass or veto laws
Ensure that there is tranquility throughout the classroom
Ensure that every single member of government is doing their job, and doing it correctly.
Article 3: Judicial Branch
Section 1: Selection and Appointment of Judges
Every member of the Supreme Court will be nominated by the President, and there shall be 5 justices. After nomination, they will be voted either in or out by Congress. In order to be considered a member of the Supreme Court, they must have attained a 2/3 majority vote from Congress. Section 2: Term of Service
Once chosen as a member of the Supreme Court, a judge is required to serve until the end of the 2008-2009 school year. The only circumstance where this isn't true, is if a judge is proven unfit for the job, in which case they will be removed from the court system, and replaced by another nominated judge. It shall be the duty of the Supreme Court justices to:
Choose a consequence for each law that a citizen breaks
Provide a trial for every criminal
Enforce the laws.
Bill of Rights
Every student has the right to privacy while they are working. Every student is also entitled to privacy in their conversations. (i.e., When a student is conversing with another, nobody has the right to listen if they aren't asked.)
Every student is entitled to an equal education as their classmates. Nobody is above anyone else, and everybody should be treated just so.
Every student has the right to entertainment as it eases their minds and allows their minds to flow more freely.
Every student has the right to nutrition. As of now, vegetarians aren't given the choices they should, and they have the right just as meat eaters to eat a school lunch.
Every student is entitled to at least 20 minutes outside, other than gym class, per day, in order to promote healthy exercise habits.
Lastly, every student is entitled to the freedom to express themselves. We, as students, have the right to voice our opinions without being made fun of, or mocked in any way.
